Sep 13, 2000 | This is a picture of my best friend, Patricia "Ragz" Stevens, and her daughter, Jenny. Pat is a single mother whose boyfriend left when Jenny was 5. Since then she has led a rather solitary, hardscrabble life trying to make ends meet.

Ragz and her daughter are friends and companions as well as mother and daughter. Jenny has asked her mom to attend college with her next year, and be her roommate in the dorm. They're moving to Maine as soon as they can to find the perfect art school and a rural homestead so private that Ragz can mow her lawn naked "and no one will know about it."
