Even if you've heard the story a thousand times, you don't want to miss the half-hour animated version of "Peter and the Wolf" appearing on "Great Performances" (8 p.m. EDT on PBS) Wednesday. Director Suzie Templeton's film, which won the Oscar for best animated short, will delight you from start to finish with its sweet touches and its old-fashioned stop-motion charm. There's no dialogue, just Peter and his woodland friends taking on the big, bad wolf!

Also…

The cheftestants of "Top Chef" (10 p.m. EDT on Bravo) are charged with catering a street fair, but how can we possibly resist a show about fried foods called "Deep Fried Paradise" (9 p.m. on Travel)? Fighting breaks out on "America's Next Top Model" (8 p.m. on the CW) and on "High School Reunion" (10 p.m. on TV Land), but we'd rather throw down with "Lewis Black's Root of All Evil" (10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central), in which Black debates the pros and cons of beer versus pot. (He certainly won't be the first one.)
